Dr. Ferrelli believes most foot problems have an integral connection to nutrution. When one considers weight loss and becoming nutrionally balanced, several areas need to be addressed - the adrenal gland, thyroid gland, cardiovascular system, musculoskeletal system, the liver, plus others.
Excess weight can play a significant role in creating foot problems. For example, the average person walks about 1 1/2 miles/day (3170 steps). Fro every five extra pounds a person carries, each foot absorbs fifteen pounds of extra force per step which equates to an additional 17,550 pounds of force per foot per day! This additional loading may lead to the accelerated breakdown of the foot structure.
One should also be aware that many foot problems are hereditary, therefore, we may develop the same type of foot deformities that our parents or grandparents had. Many if these problems will begin when we are very young however will not become symptomatic until we are older. We could avoid problems such as bunions, hammertoes, heel pain, and ankle weakness if our first visit to the podiatrist was at age 3. This is why it is critical that everyone, especially children be evaluated by a podiatrist.
Do you believe that stress plays a role in foot health? What about depression? Heart problems? Diabetes? Lack of sleep? These issues can be related to foot problems like warts, bunions, foot, ankle and leg pain, cramps and fatigue, heel pain, burning feet, neuromas, sweaty feet, fungal problems of the skin and toenails, cold feet, hammertoes, flatfeet, skin conditions and more.
These common problems are treated daily in our office using modalities for treatment including; homeopathic injections, quality nutritional supplements, acupuncture, bio-impedance analysis to determine body composition, and on-site x-rays.
